UPSC Civil services Examination (generally called IAS) at a glance
Eligibility Criteria
You should possess a degree of graduation in any stream from any university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Those who have appeared in the qualifying exam and are waiting for their results are also eligible to apply.
A candidate applying for IFS exam must possess a Bachelor's degree in one of the following subjects, including animal husbandry and veterinary science, botany, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics, statistics and zoology, or a Bachelor's degree in agriculture, forestry or engineering from a recognized university.
UPSC – IAS examination is conducted in three phases
Phase 1: Preliminary Examination or CSAT (Objective Section)
Phase 2: Main Examination (Subjective Section)
CSAT (Prelims) Pattern
The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry maximum of 400 marks. This exam is only a screening test; the marks obtained in the prelims are only for qualifying for main exam and are not counted for determining final order of merit.

In General Studies Paper - II, minimum qualifying marks is 33%. You will be selected for Mains exam based total qualifying marks of General Studies Paper - I.
CSAT is just a screening test, thus the marks obtained will
not be entertained in your final merit.

This phase will test your academic and intellectual talent
in depth. It consists of 9 papers, in which two are qualifying papers of 300
marks each:

Literature of any one following language: Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, English
You can take any subject as your optional one even if you
had not done degree in that.
Phase 3: Interview and Personality Test
This phase is totally vocal one and candidates are provided
with the option to choose their desired medium of communication.
